Windows 7 No Sound / Windows 7 Sound is not working

Hearing music and sound intensifies our enjoyment and excitement in using our computers, particularly if the operating system installed is Windows 7, which is developed by software development tycoon Microsoft Corporation. Although we can still use our Windows 7 computers even if we can’t hear sound, user interaction is highly diminished most especially in events like movie watching and playing games.
Windows 7 No Sound – Reasons

System volume is muted.
Basically, if the system volume is muted, you can never a sound whatever application you are using. To check if the system volume of your Windows 7 computer is not muted, follow the steps below:
1. Click the Start menu from the task bar.
2. Head to the Control Panel.
3. Click Hardware and Sound and then proceed to Sound.
4. Choose the Adjust System Volume option of the Sound tab.
If you can see a red sign in the volume slider then the volume system is muted. Otherwise, you need to move the slider a little higher or to the level to which you can hear the sound. Make sure you have not checked the MUTE option in the sound properties.

Software or multimedia player application is not properly installed.
There are instances that the software we are using can be the reason why we can’t hear a sound. When dealing with multimedia files like audio and movie files, there are the so-called codecs that are important to play such object properly. If the multimedia software used doesn’t support or doesn’t have that codec then the files will not be played properly, thus you cannot hear a sound.

Corrupt files are played.
Corrupt files are other culprits of the having no sound in your Windows 7 computer. Mostly, we can experience corruption of multimedia or sound files when we have not downloaded or copied it properly from the source. Moreover, there are also instances that those files that underwent conversion from one format to another can contribute to the sound problem of your Windows 7 computer.

Speakers are turned off.
When the speakers of your computer are turned off, believe me you can never a sound. Speakers are used by the sound card as a medium to which the sound is transported to the human ears. Next time, make it sure that you turned on the power of the computer speakers before blaming others.

Speaker cables are cut or are not connected properly to the right audio jack.
To connect speakers to our computers, we need cables. If you weren’t able to connect the speaker cable to the right audio jack of the computer, you will surely experience the “Windows 7 no sound” dilemma. The appropriate audio jack for speaker cable is colored green in most sound cards.
There are Windows 7 computers that have three audio jacks; one for the output, the other is for input, and the microphone jack. If you are going to connect the speaker cable to the input jack then you will not hear a sound from the computer because it is not the appropriate jack to use.

Sound card is not installed.
A sound card or audio card is a hardware that is important so that sound and music can blast out from your Windows 7 computers. It is the one responsible in handling the input and output of audio signals from the computer to an external source like the speakers.
Obviously, if there is no sound card installed on the computer, I am afraid you can never hear sound even a beep from your device. You can follow the steps below in observing whether or not your computer is installed with a sound card.
1. Click Start menu from the task bar.
2. Go to the Control Panel and then select System and Security.
3. Click the Device Manager option from the System tab.
4. Expand the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers category by double clicking it.
If you can see a sound card name on the list, then you have an installed sound card, otherwise, you don’t have any.
Note: You must an administrator privilege to view such advanced computer management option. If you are prompted for a password, enter the necessary identifications.
To fix your problem, you need to install a sound card. You can either choose to install an internal or external audio card. Internal sound card is needed to be integrated into the motherboard of your Windows 7 computer. On the other hand, external sound card can be attached externally to your Windows 7 computer, either through Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) slot or Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports.

Incompatible or defective sound card is installed.
Compatibility is an important term to be considered when choosing sound cards or any other hardware that you will connect into your computer. If you choose to install a sound card that is only applicable for computers running the Windows XP operating system, you will surely encounter sound problems if you install it into a Windows 7 computer. So, before you are going to spend money in buying sound cards, make it sure that it is compatible for computers having the Windows 7 operating system.
Meanwhile if the sound card installed on your Windows 7 is defective, you cannot hear sound as well. You will know if your sound card has malfunctioned if you have tried the best that you can yet the solution is not fixed.

Corrupt or missing drivers
Aside from compatibility, drivers are also important when it comes to sound card. Drivers are the ones responsible in instructing the sound card during the manipulation of the input and output of audio signals in and out of the computer. Sound cards are useless without drivers. Likewise, corrupt drivers yield the same result as not having a driver at all.
You will know if there is a problem with your sound card driver if you can see a yellow exclamation point in the name of your sound card in the Device Manager of the computer.
